Iced Matcha Latte

Deliciously cool and pretty to look at, Iced Matcha Latte brings the coffeehouse vibes without the coffeehouse price tag! Easy to make with matcha powder, your favorite milk, and a simple vanilla cold foam spooned on top, this is a drink you can enjoy from the comfort of home.
Matcha, a special type of Japanese green tea, is made from shade-grown tea leaves. The growing process causes the plant to produce extra chlorophyll, making it a beautiful green. The resulting antioxidants are a bonus!
Ceremonial-grade matcha is a high-quality tea made from the youngest leaves that are dried flat and finely ground into powder.
To make the tea, sift the powder to rid it of any lumps. Place it into a bowl, add a small amount of warm water, and whisk to combine. Add more water and whisk again for a full cup of tea. I find it makes for a vibrant tea that isn't bitter but earthy and slightly nutty. It truly is delicious as is, but it is also good paired with milk, like in this latte.

The combination of milk and matcha makes for some pretty and fun organic shapes as the matcha drifts down into the milk. Drink the iced latte plain, or whisk up some vanilla cold foam to top off the drink for a plush layer.
Another fun matcha drink is my Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte!

Lessons Learned
- Need this to be dairy-free? Unsweetened almond milk is my go-to, but use what you like. For the cold foam, sub in a non-dairy version of heavy whipping cream such as coconut cream.
- It's important to use a good quality matcha powder since that is the primary taste here! Look for ceremonial-grade matcha, which is a higher quality that is more vibrant in color and less bitter in taste.
- A liquid sweetener is going to blend in easier, so my homemade simple syrup (regular and sugar-free) works perfectly. Maple syrup or honey works, too.
