Frozen Yogurt Bites

Bite cross section of frozen yogurt bite.

Cool, creamy, and delicious! These Frozen Yogurt Bites are easy to make and even easier to eat. Greek yogurt, tahini, and maple syrup get stirred together, frozen, and dunked into melted chocolate. Flaky salt and toasted sesame seeds bring the crunch!

Frozen yogurt isn't anything new. It's been popular since the 1980s. But I love the small, bite-sized appeal of these frozen treats. They are just the right size to pop in your mouth and enjoy on a warm afternoon or evening.

Tahini, Greek yogurt, dark chocolate chips, and maple syrup.

The yogurt bites get dunked in chocolate.

Greek yogurt does double duty here, bringing both creaminess and some protein.

If you haven't seen my interview with Beth Bollinger, an integrated health practioner, you'll want to read that. She talks about the importance of fat, fiber, and protein in sweet treats so they don't make your blood glucose go cuckoo. Even though I don't have diabetes or prediabetes, I find the older I get, the more I have to pay attention to metabolic health and stable blood sugar levels to feel my best.

These treats are easy to make and great stored in the freezer for whenever you want a little something sweet.

Lessons Learned

  • It is important to use a thick Greek yogurt like Fage brand or the one sold at Costco. Other yogurts are too runny and thin. While I like 2% fat, use nonfat if you like.
  • Not into tahini? Sub in natural peanut butter or almond butter instead.
  • Garnish the tops immediately after dunking in chocolate. The coating hardens quickly so move fast!

Description

Cool, creamy, and delicious! Frozen Yogurt Bites are easy to make and even easier to eat. Greek yogurt, tahini, and maple syrup get stirred together and frozen before being dunked into melted chocolate. Sprinkle on a little flaky salt and toasted sesame seeds for crunch.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup thick, unsweetened Greek yogurt (such as Fage)
  • ½ cup tahini
  • 1 Tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ⅔ cup dark chocolate chips or chopped 70% dark chocolate
  • 1 Tablespoon olive or grapeseed oil
  • Garnish: flaky salt and toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Stir together the yogurt, tahini, and maple syrup in a medium bowl until well combined.
  3. Use a #40 scoop (1 and ½ Tablespoons) to portion out individual bites and place on the prepared sheet. Using this size scoop, I get exactly 11 yogurt bites. Place the sheet on a level surface in the freezer. Freeze for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  4. Combine the dark chocolate and oil in a small microwavable bowl. Melt for 30 seconds, stir, and microwave again for 30 seconds or until melted.
  5. Using two forks, dip the frozen yogurt bites into the melted chocolate to coat. Place back on the parchment lined sheet and immediately sprinkle with flaky salt or sesame seeds. Repeat with the remaining bites. Store covered in the freezer.
  6. When ready to eat, leave at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the yogurt to soften slightly (it will be rock hard when frozen).
