Cherry Whiskey Sour

Cherry Whiskey Sour

Cherry whiskey sour.

Cherry Whiskey Sour is a fruity twist on a classic drink. With just four ingredients (and one of them is jam!), it's an easy-to-make cocktail to enjoy at home with family and friends.

A Classic Cocktail

The Whiskey Sour is a classic cocktail that’s been around a long time. It started appearing in bartending guides in the mid-19th century but it's likely that the drink goes even farther back in history. In the age of sea explorers and long voyages, spirits and citrus fruit were kept on ships to help sailors avoid scurvy, a vitamin C deficiency.

While the classic recipe includes just three ingredients, spirit, citrus juice, and sweetener, there have been numerous riffs that add other flavors and ingredients. For instance, a New York Sour adds a float of red wine while Vodka Sour with Elderflower swaps out the spirit.

In this one, cherry and whiskey go along to get along and make a fabulous drinkie.

While sours will often include an egg white to give the drink an extra layer of smoothness, I've left it out here but feel free to add it.

Lessons Learned

  • No cocktail jigger? No problem. Use measuring spoons. Two Tablespoons equals one ounce.
  • Use whatever cherry jam or preserves you have, either store bought or homemade. I used one made by Divina but use what you like.
  • Fresh is always best when it comes to lemon juice! One small lemon yields about one ounce of juice.
