Grapefruit Coconut Paloma Mocktail

Fresh fruit juices combined with a few simple ingredients make up this refreshing Grapefruit Coconut Paloma Mocktail. It's zero-proof and 100 percent delicious!
The Paloma
If you've had the cocktail Paloma, you are familiar with its refreshingly sweet and tart flavor profile. Imagine a tangy and bubbly version of a margarita! Typically, a Paloma is made from tequila, grapefruit soda, and lime juice. Salt rim is optional (actually, not in my book, but some peeps aren't as fond of a salty rim).
Since I've been on a mocktail kick lately, I decided to make a zero-proof version of this lovely drink. Some swaps I made include:
- Fresh grapefruit juice and sparkling water in place of the grapefruit soda
- Apple cider vinegar instead of tequila
- Agave to sweeten things rather than the sugar in a soda
- Lime juice stays the same!
A Paloma is usually made directly in the glass by pouring everything together. However, I decided to shake things up by literally shaking things up in a cocktail shaker to emulsify the juices, agave, and vinegar. Because I don't like floaty bits in my drink, I also strained this one through a fine mesh strainer.

To further change things up, I employed a flavored sparkling water here. It is La Croix coconut-flavored sparkling water, which totally made the drink more tropical tasting!
Lessons Learned
- Fresh grapefruit and lime juices are always going to yield a tastier drink, but if you don't have access to them, go with a good-quality bottled version.
- If you don't like or don't have agave, use a simple syrup or other liquid sweetener of your choice.
- My favorite apple cider vinegar is Bragg's, but use what you like.
